Azaleas must be grown and well maintained in Houston because that is what the public wants. The problem is poor quality city and well water. It’s loaded with salts and has a high pH. When we water, we raise the pH and pour salts on the plants. Azaleas like a low pH (5.0) and are very salt sensitive, so every watering puts Azaleas under stress (an open invitation to lacebugs), ties up nutrients (especially iron) and burns roots and leaves.
Find out what the current pH is by using our Kelway pH meter. Then add our Sulfur to lower the pH.
Do not add more then 10 lb. of Sulfur per 1,000 sq.ft. Wait 3-4 months, take another pH meter and adjust accordingly. Never adding more then 10 lb. of Sulfur per 1,000 sq.ft.
